After beginning to trace the history of her sexual development, Joely found that, without really being conscious of it, these experiences had been shaping the kind of sex that she was (or was not) having. She wanted more control over her sexual future, and writing This Is Your Sex Life was the first step.

 

This Is Your Sex Life borrows from live art, storytelling and cabaret. The audience hear and see my experiences of my sexuality - from being 10 years old with a fetish for rope, through to my most recent significant experiences with my alter-ego – Ray Taken. Other stories include my experiences with early sexualisation, presumed heterosexuality, struggle to ask for pleasure, the virginity myth, and BDSM.

 

I make this work, in short, because free, informed and safe sexual expression is still a dangerously overlooked human right.
